These leashes should be used only after the dog has been trained to walk on a standard leash. 3. Adjustable Leashes: Similar to the standard leashes, these leashes have several loops along the length of the leash that enables clasping or shortening of the leash according to the situation. The various lengths of leash are especially useful while training. These leashes are especially useful when briefly tethering a dog to a pole or similar object. Do not leave a tethered dog unattended.
4. Martingale Leads: These are all-in-one collars and leashes. They are commonly used for toy breeds in show rings. The collar portion slips over the head and tightens when the leash is pulled. The collar is kept in place by a plastic tube that slides down the leash. For larger dogs it is recommended to buy larger versions of the lead which are also freely available.
