Toilet Training Your Puppy by Training Yourself

Toilet training your puppy can get a little frustrating at times and it's just not possible to keep an eye on him 24 hours a day, so first up, just don't expect too much too quickly from your new puppy. Some puppies may take up until about six months old before they are completely toilet trained. Puppies do tend to eat a lot and use their bladder and bowels a lot but as they get older they will gain more control.

As puppies grow and develop quite quickly it is completely natural that they will eat a lot and will
have a lot of energy and as such will need to ‘eliminate’ quite often. A young puppy will not have developed bladder and bowel control so they are just not able to hold on as long as an adult dog.

Be really enthusiastic and give her a lot of praise when she does her business in the designated area. Dogs love to please their owners so when she receives lots of praise
from you she will want to do it again to keep pleasing you. When she is in the house keep an eye on her and if you catch her doing her business you should take her out to the designated area. You will need to be consistent and keep taking her out to the right spot and keep up the praise.

Be consistent and be patient with your puppy. Do not punish her for little accidents, it is normal for these to happen at times, just remember to give her lots of praise when she gets it right. Puppy training does take a bit of time and the older your puppy gets the more control over her bowel and bladder she will have. To learn more about toilet training your puppy, click here!
